MGSV The Phantom Pain Review Pt. 6

You might be wondering, “Where’s Andrea with our weekly dose of failed attempts in MGSV?” Don’t worry, I was wondering the same thing. I needed to take a break from the frustrations that MGSV was giving me, so I spent some time making a video about the secrets of Red Dead Redemption 2 as a breather (if you haven’t seen it yet, here’s the link).

But guys, I’m a very stubborn person and I don’t give up easily. So just as I took a break, I went back to face the chaos I can cause in MGSV with a single shot and mess everything up (of which I am not proud at all)). So, I got motivated, turned on the lights, and got down to action, and here is what happened in these two episodes which (finally!) I didn’t suffer through as much.

Episode 17 – Rescue the Agents

When starting this mission, I swear I thought it would be easier, a rescue mission for two agents where infiltration was required. What I didn’t know was that these agents would be difficult to rescue.

Let’s start with the first one; we were informed that the first agent to rescue was hiding in the forest, tied up, and crying out. And just as we entered the trees, it turned out the kid was surrounded by a bunch of soldiers, and an elite one was aiming at him. In my defense, what the hell is a prisoner doing lying in the middle of nowhere! Anyway, rescuing this prisoner wasn’t easy, and it took me a few tries (well, okay, a little more than a few), but when we finally rescued him, we started running, because that’s what we do best.

When looking for the second one, we were told that the area was so exposed that even if Mother Nature herself birthed you, you wouldn’t be able to hide. And indeed, there I was, as stealthy as my clumsy self could be, trying to approach the area where the prisoner was being held. As soon as I got a bit close to the group of guards surrounding the area, a shootout started. The worst part was that, even though good old D-Dog marked where the prisoner was, I had no idea how to get close. It turned out they had him in some kind of cave/trench that required a crazy maneuver to infiltrate.

Luckily, I managed to reach him and got out of there using my most invaluable and ancient tactic, running like a madwoman.

Looking for Quiet

Thanks to the legends on YouTube who left comments, one of the suggestions was to take Quiet with me. I had no idea you could take her with you on missions, and I started wondering how the hell to get her. I thought being able to take Quiet happened over time, just like with DD, who unlocked as you progressed, but no.

Looking closely at the Mother Base map, I saw something yellow in the medical wing, saying “Visit Quiet.” I dressed up Snake to see the future mother of his children and headed to the Mother Base, but when I got to the medical wing, I had no idea where she could be, and you wouldn’t believe how many times I walked past the place.

After wandering around looking for Quiet, I stumbled upon a mysterious mechanical door that opened when I passed. It led me to a hallway with another door, and when I entered, I couldn’t believe my eyes. The very personification of misfortune made flesh and blood, and most importantly, ALIVE. I won’t spoil anything here, but I consider my dear legends that you should see it for yourself; I was left with my brain in shreds and still can’t stop thinking about what I saw and the explanation Ocelot and Miller gave for such a matter.

Once I recovered my head, I left that room and headed back to the helipad, feeling pretty dumb when I realized that Quiet was right there, under my feet; I just had to look down.

When we went to see her, the girl got quite romantic, as if she missed her Snake. In front of us (and Ocelot), she took a bath and absorbed the water with her skin, then laid down. I thought I would have to censor my stream after that. Ocelot gave us some info about Quiet, like that the girl does not eat, she nourishes herself with water, does some sort of photosynthesis, and obviously does not say a word. But she has shown cooperation and trust in Snake, so we should take her for a spin.

So I decided to take Quiet with me on the next mission to avoid suffering.

Episode 18 – Blood Runs Deep

And well, Quiet really made a difference! Clearly, at first, I didn’t know how things worked with Quiet because we got off the helicopter and I went to the site, but she didn’t follow me. So I sent her home and called good old DD. But once I got into the initial area, I called Quiet again.

Seeing her in action left me amazed, the woman has infallible aim. As soon as I asked her to take care of some enemies, Quiet immediately planted a few bullets, creating a distraction efficient enough to allow me to move forward. What I didn’t expect was what came next; I suddenly found myself in a tented area, semi-jungle-like, with few guards, but as I advanced, they began to appear. I asked Quiet several times to take care of a few of them, and then I had the bad luck of being spotted by a helicopter. So, as usual in my gameplays, I started running like a madwoman while Quiet did my job.

Between running and hiding, I reached my destination, a cave where the prisoners were held, and wow, I didn’t expect that. After the cutscene that deceived me well, we proceeded to rescue the prisoners, carrying one on my back because he was injured. Just before leaving, I called Pequod for the extraction, and when Pequod arrived, he got into the helicopter along with Quiet, keeping the area secure for my escape. We continued through a river that Quiet kept watch over, and once we reached the extraction point, I couldn’t believe it.

It was my first attempt at this mission, and without Quiet, I wouldn’t have made it, which says a lot about Quiet’s abilities. It also says a lot about my lack of skills XD, but that’s something I’ve accepted, and believe me, I live with that every day.

I think this adventure is going to get friendlier from now on, and that gives me peace of mind. If you liked this article, here are the previous parts if you’d like to read them too:
