MGSV The Phantom Pain Review Pt. 8

The time has come to face my nemesis, and it clearly has an advantage over me; the creature is terrifying! And well, although I had seen it once before, and it left me in pretty bad shape, I must say I was armed with courage to face this explosive villain once again. Honestly, I didn’t expect things to turn out the way they did; this episode has been one of the most laid-back ones in a long time, by far. So, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did when I played it. Here’s the video of what was this great Episode 8.

Episode 20 – Voices (Again)

Before starting this mission again, I studied and analyzed the advice of a great follower of the channel, which was indeed useful, yet I failed miserably in the execution. I still can’t believe what happened in this episode. It all started with the cinematic of Skull Face, followed by the explosion of the man on fire, and as soon as I took control of Snake, I was already failing—I couldn’t get up, and I couldn’t remember the controls (what a great failure).

I managed to escape his clutches, and after running a lot across the field, the man on fire began to relentlessly burn my butt. I had a strategy in mind—I developed a water gun that I thought would be quite useful, but I ended up looking stupid, spraying little water jets at the man on fire while he burned me entirely. So, after realizing I was making a fool of myself, I started running around the area, looking for water tanks that would help me extinguish the man. After managing to drop a water tank on the man on fire, Psycho Mantis appeared, and even though I emptied the magazines of my AM MRS-4 on him, nothing could bring down the flying kid.

I tried this several times, but out of nowhere, the weather and the gods of MGSV favored me with a rain that eventually put out the man on fire. Honestly, I thought it would be a very difficult battle, one that would be hard to overcome, but on my first attempt, the rain took care of my nemesis, and soon my path was clear to continue the adventure.

Episode 21 – War Economy

This episode was interesting. After surviving the man on fire, they sent me to the Angola-Zaire border to a mission where I had to infiltrate to eliminate an officer who was negotiating weapons with someone I don’t know, and you know what infiltration requires: stealth.

Taking advantage of the fact that I hadn’t explored this area yet, I decided to make the mission even cooler by stealing every resource and soldier that crossed my path, and I must say that thanks to this, I was able to make Mother Base’s fortune grow. However, like any mission that requires stealth, of course I failed and got riddled with bullets. It’s not a difficult mission, and on the second attempt, it was completed without any issues, with a good sniper rifle.

Episode 22 – Retake the Platform

Just before this mission, we get a cinematic where Hal Emmerich presents his advances, because the guy has to be useful for something; his stay isn’t free.

After the cinematic, we are told that someone decided to be funny and took control of the base, so now we have an urgent mission to go liberate the base. That’s how I embarked on another stealth mission, and using my sniper, I took down the leader of the mutiny who was at the top of one of the towers. Without a doubt, it was the easiest of the three.

Small Obsession

Legends, I have to admit that since I played this episode, I’ve been head over heels doing side missions, upgrading the base, developing weapons, etc., without even realizing it, I had fired Malak, the anesthetist, although in my defense, the guy doesn’t have great stats, but what I didn’t know was that without him, I can’t develop weapons to stun enemies! And I recently found that out. So, I’m sure in the next episode you’ll see my Snake much more armed, stealthier (believe it or not), and me a little more skillful.

By the way, don’t you find that side missions get repetitive? It feels like I’ve been doing the same thing over and over for hours. Still, that doesn’t take away from the entertainment, especially after a stressful day of work in real life; all it takes is turning on the PS5 and enjoying the game.

P.S.: Don’t forget to stay hydrated, friends!
