Story
Miles Morales’ story is like that sequel you didn’t know you needed, but once you have it, you can’t stop playing! The plot is an exciting extension of the previous game, like a giant DLC, but it deserves to be a full game to immerse you even more in this narrative.
In this story, we will encounter different enemies (who are quite interesting), such as Rhino, the main antagonist of this installment, who happens to be a character very close to Miles. We will also get to know Aaron Davis, Miles’ uncle, who harbors an unpleasant secret for our new arachnid hero.
It may not have the widest array of enemies like in the previous game, but this Spider-Man manages to tell its story in a gripping way. It also takes us through Miles’ evolution as the current vigilante in NYC, where he discovers his powers, which are somewhat different from Peter Parker’s, and learns to use them.
And what about the playtime? Well, the main missions will take you on about a 7-hour adventure, but if you decide to dive into the side missions, be prepared for at least an additional 12 hours of gameplay.
Pros
Fights
This game gives us an innovative gameplay that takes combat mechanics to a whole new level with two amazing powers: bioelectricity and invisibility.
Bioelectricity: Miles not only throws punches but also electrifies his enemies! An electrifying way to fight crime!
Invisibility: What better way to stalk the bad guys than by becoming invisible? With the power of invisibility, Miles can stealthily attack and disappear before his enemies even realize.
Swinging
The swinging in this game is a true gem, much more fun than in the previous Spider-Man. You can feel Miles’ personality in every swing and leap! It’s one of those mechanics that accompanies you throughout the entire game, and honestly, it’s something to be thankful for.
PC Version
This game originated on the PS4 and later shone on the PS5, but the best part is that it has now arrived on Steam, offering us the flexibility to dive into the arachnid adventure from wherever we feel most comfortable.
Graphics
In the graphics department, there is a significant improvement; Marvel Spider-Man: Miles Morales looks spectacular on both Sony consoles and on the computer. We equipped our machine with some powerful components: a Ryzen 5700x, 32 GB of RAM, a powerful RX 6650 XT as the graphics card, and the game installed on a 512 GB m.2 disk.
The result was amazing: at a resolution of 1080p, the game ran at an average of 90 frames per second (FPS).
Cons
Duration
The duration is a downside, as even though it’s an exciting game, it goes by too quickly. Before you know it, you’ve already conquered 50% of the game, so make sure to savor every moment of this adventure because it is genuinely short.
A Reused Formula
In my experience with the game, I noticed that, although there are small changes, the overall feel is very similar to the previous game. Yes, we switch characters, but the environment and missions seem quite familiar.
The real surprise came when I realized that the map is basically the same as in the previous game. At first, nostalgia is great, but there comes a moment when it starts to feel a bit empty. In the previous Spider-Man, we had exciting missions related to crimes and dynamic events. However, in this installment, they are mainly reduced to collecting collectibles, which takes away some of the spark that made the previous Spider-Man so vibrant.
Although it remains a fun experience, I can’t help but miss those action-packed missions that used to bring the neighborhood to life. Perhaps in the next game, they will surprise us with something new and exciting.
An arachnid that is worth it
Although it may resemble its predecessor, this game not only offers you the thrill of swinging through the city but also immerses you in an essential story to understand what’s coming in Spider-Man 2.
